NY Thruway reopens to passenger traffic, commercial vehicles still banned

Buffalo, N.Y. — A portion of the state Thruway in Western New York has reopened Saturday night.
Westbound passenger traffic on I-90 from Exit 57 (Hamburg – East Aurora) to the Pennsylvania state line has reopened, according to the state Thruway.
A commercial vehicle ban is still in effect from Exit 46 (Rochester) to the Pennsylvania state line in both directions.
The westbound side of the Thruway was closed from Exit 57 at Hamburg due to a lake effect snow Friday evening. Drivers who were headed west were forced off at Exit 57, about 60 miles from the state’s western border with Pennsylvania.
Some parts of Western New York have seen more than 30 inches of snow, and more is expected Sunday.
